Alex Oxlade Chamberlain was born Alexander Mark David Oxlade-Chamberlain on August 15th, 1993 in Portsmouth, England.

Southampton F.C. 

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain joined the Southampton FC academy at the age of 7. After making his way through the different youth categories of the club, Chamberlain was promoted to the reserve team in the 2009-10 season, 2 still a player in the youth team. 

In that same season, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain managed to make his debut with the first team, on March 2, 2010, in the 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town when he was only 16 years and 199 days old. With that, he became the second youngest player (after Theo Walcott) to play for the Southampton senior team.

In the 2010-11 season, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain made his debut as a starter in the Football League Cup against Bournemouth on August 10, 2010.

First senior goal

In that game, Chamberlain also scored his first ever goal at the senior level, having scored in the 86th minute of a 2-0 victory for Southampton. Ten days later, Alex signed a three year contract with Southampton. His first game as a starter in the league was on September 4, 2010, in Southampton’s 2-0 defeat against Rochdale AFC, while his first goal was on October 23, 2010, in the 2-1 win over Oldham Athletic.

On 2 November 2010, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain scored his first double for Southampton in a 4–0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, where he also provided an assist. Due to his good performance in that match, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain was voted Man of the Match for the first time in his career.

On March 22, 2011, in a match against Charlton Athletic, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain suffered a foot injury that kept him off the pitch for just over a month. Despite this, he was included in the Football League One Team of the Year thanks to his good performance during the season.

Arsenal

Several Premier League teams, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United showed interest in signing the player. However, in the end, it was the “Gunners” who managed to sign him on August 8, 2011. He was sold by Southampton for almost 14 million euros.

His debut with Arsenal in the Premier League was on August 28, 2011, in the 8-2 defeat against Manchester United, having entered in the 62nd minute for Francis Coquelin. Then, on September 20, 2011, Alex would score his first goal for Arsenal in a 3-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in the Football League Cup. On September 28, he scored his first goal in the Champions League against Olympiakos. With that goal, he became the youngest Englishman to score in the Champions League, beating Walcott. On February 4, he achieved a double in the 7-1 win against Blackburn. In the following season, he failed to gain a place in the starting eleven, playing many games off the bench. Between 2013 and 2016 he suffered several serious injuries, which slowed his progression.

Liverpool

On August 31, 2017, his transfer to Liverpool was announced, estimated at 37.7 million euros. On October 17, he scored his first goal in the 7-0 win against Maribor. Little by little, Jurgen Klopp slowed him down on the field and began to use him as a midfielder instead of a winger. 

On April 4, he scored a goal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final against Manchester City (3-0). On April 28, he suffered a serious knee injury that would keep him off the pitch for almost a year.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has been playing internationally with the England team in the under-18,​ under-19​, and under-21 categories. With the under-18s, Alex made his debut on November 16, 2010, in his team’s 3-0 victory over Poland. On January 26, 2011, Alex was called up to the under-19s for the first time to play a friendly match against Germany, which would be played on February 8. 

However, on February 2, 2011, Alex was called up to the under-21s for a friendly match against Italy, which would also be played on February 8. Alex started the game on the bench and came on as a substitute in the 60th minute for Henri Lansbury, although his team was defeated 1-0.

Senior team

On May 16, 2012, he was called up by Roy Hodgson to participate with the senior team at Euro 2012. His debut with the senior team occurred on May 26, 2012, in the victory against Norway. On October 12, he scored his first goal in the win over San Marino in a qualifying match for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

On 12 May 2014, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was named by manager Roy Hodgson in the final list of 23 players to represent England at the 2014 Football World Cup. However, injury prevented him from participating in any of the three matches.

The case of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joins a long list of European footballers that have had break-ins that includes Paul Pogba, Thomas Müller, Victor Lindelof, Jesse Lingard, Dani Carvajal, Kevin Prince-Boateng, and Lucas Vázquez.
